Welcome to the GTC “100 in 30” CHALLENGE!

Eastside Track Information:

5000 meters is 12.5 laps around the 400 meter track.

The exchange points will alternate between points #1 and #2:

A runner starting at EP #1 will run 12.5 laps, finishing at EP #2.

The next runner will run 12.5 laps, finishing at EP #1 and so on...

The Challenge is On! Take 100 of the fastest runners in upstate South Carolina, give them all a free technical shirt, go to the track, crank up the music on the PA system, and what do you get? With some careful planning, a little luck, and a lot of fun - you get a NEW WORLD RECORD for the 5K x 100 Relay!

The Event. The Greenville Track Club will host this special event on May 21 & 22, 2011 at Eastside High School in Greenville, SC. We’re calling it the GTC “100 in 30” Challenge. The “100 in 30” means 100 5Ks in 30 hours. The 100 5Ks will be run consecutively by 100 different participants. At the completion of the 100th 5K, we intend to be under 30 hours elapsed time and eclipse the existing WR by roughly 1 HOUR.

Need for Speed. In order to break the record, the GTC is compiling a list of the fastest runners in the upstate. The minimum AVERAGE PACE needed to break 30 hours is 5:48/mile. This correlates to a minimum AVERAGE 5K TIME of 18:01, and on a 400 meter track, that will require a minimum “lap time” of 1:26.
